What a coin is
A coin is a digital item recorded on a blockchain: a public record that thousands of computers keep together, so nobody can quietly change it. People also call coins tokens. It's the same thing.
Anyone can make a coin and give it a name and a short ticker, like $PEPE. A coin can stand for a creator, a community or a game, and its price is whatever people pay for it, so it goes up and down. A coin is not a share in a company, and nobody can promise what it will be worth.
Each blockchain is a chain, such as Base, Solana or Ethereum. A coin lives on one or more of them. Its contract address, a long code, tells it apart from every other coin with the same name.
What a wallet is
A wallet is your account on a blockchain. It holds your coins and proves it's you when you sign in or approve something. It isn't a bank account: nobody can freeze it, and nobody can reset it for you if you lose access.
You don't need one before you start. Press Sign Up at the top right of chaindaddy.io and sign in with your email or a social account such as Google, Apple or X: a wallet is made for you. Already have a wallet, such as MetaMask or Phantom? Connect it instead.
Two words you'll meet:
- Sign: your wallet shows a message and you approve it. It proves it's you. It's free and moves nothing.
- Seed phrase: the 12 or 24 secret words that restore a wallet that has one. Whoever has them controls everything in it. See Stay safe.
What holding means
Holding a coin means having some in your wallet. Coins split into tiny pieces, so you can hold $1 worth.
On Chain Daddy, holding a creator's coin is how you join their community. Hold at least their minimum, $1 unless the creator set more, and you can press Subscribe on their token page to get their news: in the app, by push, email, text, or a message on Telegram or Discord. Texts need $15 of the coin. Subscribing is free, and you can leave any time. Some creators also open links, chats or Discord roles to holders.
How buying works here
Every coin registered here has a token page at chaindaddy.io/TICKER, with a Trade button. You buy right on the page:
- Sign in, so there's a wallet for the coin to land in.
- Have something to pay with. A trade swaps one coin for another, so your wallet needs the coin its chain runs on, such as ETH or SOL. In the US you can buy that inside the same sheet: under your balance, Pay with offers Apple Pay, Google Pay and Card. It goes to your own wallet, not to Chain Daddy.
- Pick an amount and confirm in your wallet. The coin arrives, usually within a minute.
Paying by card: Apple Pay and Google Pay take $30 to $1,000 a payment, a card $5 to $3,000. Outside the US the sheet says these aren't available. Pay by card
What it costs
- Gas: the fee a blockchain charges to record anything, a trade included. It goes to the blockchain, not to Chain Daddy. On most chains it's a few cents or less; on Ethereum it can be a few dollars.
- The trading fee: the pool you buy from takes a small fee, built into the price you're quoted. On a coin launched here, most of it goes to the coin's creator. Who gets paid
- Paying by card: the payment provider adds its own fee and shows you the total before you pay.
- Subscribing to a coin's news is free.
Stay safe 🔐
- Never share your seed phrase or private key (the secret that signs for your wallet). Not with us, not with a coin's team, not with "support". Anyone who asks is trying to steal from you.
- We never DM you first. Our bots on Telegram and Discord only write to you after you subscribe and connect them yourself. Someone who messages you first as Chain Daddy isn't us.
- Make sure you have the real coin. Two coins can share a name. Look for Verified on the token page and match the contract address: Check a token is real.
- Slow down when you're rushed. A message that says you'll lose out unless you act in minutes, or promises a price, is a scam.
- Only spend what you're fine losing. A coin's price can fall to nothing.
A message that looks off? Forward it to support@chaindaddy.io. How to tell our messages apart: Messages From Chain Daddy.
