Your Media Storage

Keep your coin page's media in your own IPFS account. Once you connect one, the images, video and music you upload go from your browser straight to your account, so they're yours wherever your page goes. Chain Daddy keeps only the link.

  • Video needs your own storage. Connect it before you upload a video to your page.
  • Images go to our storage until you connect yours, then to yours.
  • Holders-only pieces in your Gallery are encrypted before they leave your device, and they need your own storage too.

Both providers have a free plan to start.

Connect your storage

In your coin manager, open Admin and find Your media storage.

Pinata

  1. Create an account at app.pinata.cloud.
  2. Open API Keys → New Key. Leave Admin off and turn on Files: Write. Copy the JWT (the long one).
  3. Optional: open Gateways and copy your gateway domain (it ends in .mypinata.cloud). Your media loads fastest from it.
  4. In Your media storage, choose Pinata, paste the JWT (and the gateway domain, if you have one) and select Check and connect.

Filebase

  1. Create an account at console.filebase.com.
  2. Open Buckets → Create Bucket and choose IPFS as the network.
  3. Open Access Keys and copy the key and the secret.
  4. Optional: if you set up a dedicated gateway, copy its domain.
  5. Optional, to move the media already on your page: on Access Keys, under IPFS RPC API, choose your bucket to generate a pinning token.
  6. In Your media storage, choose Filebase, fill in the bucket name, key and secret (and the gateway and token, if you have them) and select Check and connect.

Connecting adds one rule to your bucket so your browser can upload from Chain Daddy. Your other bucket settings stay as they are.

Chain Daddy checks the key before it saves it. Your keys are stored encrypted and never shown again.

The media already on your page

Once you connect, Chain Daddy moves the images, video and music your page already uses from our storage to your account, a few minutes at a time. Your media storage shows how it's going: "Moving your existing media: 3 of 5 files moved."

  • Your page keeps showing every file while it moves, and its links switch to your account once the file is there.
  • On a Pinata free plan the file is copied into your account and gets a new IPFS address there; your page's links are updated to it. On other plans it keeps the same address.
  • Your coin's logo stays with us. Wallets, token lists and explorers keep a copy of your logo's link, so moving it would break it there.
  • A file another page also uses stays on our storage too, so that page keeps working.
  • A Filebase connection moves existing media only with its pinning token. Without one, the files wait: disconnect, then connect again with the token.

Holders-only pieces

In the Gallery editor, Upload for holders only encrypts the file in your browser before it uploads it to your storage. The file on IPFS is unreadable on its own. Chain Daddy keeps its key and gives it only to a viewer the piece is open to: you, your helpers, and wallets that hold enough of your coin. Their browser decrypts it.

  • Images, video and audio up to 200 MB.
  • An encrypted piece stays holders-only, and its link can't be edited. To change it, upload it again.
  • Holders-only pieces come with every paid plan. See Gallery.

Disconnect

Select Disconnect in Your media storage. The files you uploaded stay in your account, and your page keeps using them. New images go to our storage again, and you can't upload a video until you connect again.

Keep the files pinned in your account for as long as you want them shown: a file you delete there stops showing on your page.

Reported files

If a file on your page breaks our Terms, we take it off your page, and for a holders-only piece we delete its key so no one can open it again. The file itself stays in your account; Chain Daddy never deletes anything there.

Check and connect says Pinata refused the keyMake a new key with Files: Write on, and copy the JWT, not the API key or secret.
Check and connect says the bucket isn't rightCheck the bucket name, and that it was created with IPFS as its network.
"Video goes to your own storage" when you upload a videoConnect your storage, then upload again.
Some files "wait for an IPFS pinning token"Filebase only: disconnect, then connect again with the pinning token from Access Keys.
Some files "couldn't be moved and stay on ours"They keep working from our storage. A folder on IPFS can't be moved as one file.
